72.1 hp engine · 60 PTO−17% to the shaft

Flagship of the M4 line and the most expensive tractor Kubota sells under 105 hp outside the M5. Deluxe fittings meet the full 72.1 hp tune - electro-hydraulic 4WD, two remotes with flow control and 540/540E all standard.

On the price: The maker's own published starting figure for the base build. A dealer adds a loader, a deck and freight on top.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners say

What they like

  • Combines the 72.1 hp tune with the deluxe kit that the M4-071 does without - electro-hydraulic 4WD, two remotes and 540E
  • 60 PTO hp from 72.1 engine hp, driven through a fully synchronized six-speed with an electro-hydraulic shuttle
  • 3,307 lb hitch capacity at 24 in behind the lift points, with top-link draft sensing and mixed control
  • The LA1154 reaches 133 in at the pivot pin, high enough to load a tandem trailer over the side
  • Optional F18/R18 creeper box adds low ground speeds for specialty work
  • 23.8 gal tank and 130 amp alternator suit long days with electric implements running

What they complain about

  • $65,612 is $3,888 above the mechanically near-identical M4-071, and the extra buys convenience rather than capability
  • 6,008 lb and 142 in long makes it the least manoeuvrable machine in this size band
  • Cab only, so there is no cheaper open-station route into the deluxe spec
  • Kubota's M-series powertrain warranty runs 36 months or 3,000 hours, half the 72-month term the BX through L tractors carry

Deluxe trim at the bottom of the M4 range: the same 203 cu in V3307 as its siblings, detuned to 65.4 hp and 52 PTO hp. Costs more than the higher-powered M4-071 because the deluxe fittings, not the engine, set the price.

Cheapest way into Kubota's M4 cab frame, and the only one of the three that is not a Deluxe. Same V3307-CR-TE4 and same F12/R12 synchronized box as the M4D-071, but with mechanical on-the-go 4WD, one standard remote and 540 PTO only.

Middle of Kubota's three factory backhoe machines, and the one that behaves most like a compact backhoe loader. HST Plus with six ranges, 25 gpm of pump capacity and a self-levelling TL1300 loader put it in contractor territory rather than property-owner territory.
