A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
Massey Ferguson 4707
What they like
- 4,850 lb three-point lift at 24 inches handles round balers, big rotary cutters, and 3-bale spears that would overwhelm most tractors under 75 HP
- No DEF tank - the 3.3L AGCO Power engine meets Tier 4 with just a DOC, one less fluid and one less failure point than DEF-equipped rivals
- The 12x12 power shuttle makes loader work genuinely pleasant - direction changes with a flick of the left-hand lever, no clutching
- At 7,478+ lbs it's a legitimately heavy utility tractor that stays planted with the 931X loader lifting 3,420 lbs at the pins
- 17.2 GPM hydraulic flow runs hay equipment and hydraulic-hungry implements without starving
- Simple Global Series platform (built for worldwide markets) means fewer electronics to fail than a comparable premium Deere 5R
- Owners consistently report it undercuts a comparably equipped John Deere 5075E/5090E package by a healthy margin
What they complain about
- No hydrostatic option - if you want an HST at this horsepower, you're shopping Deere 4066R or Kubota instead
- The 3-cylinder is coarse compared to the smooth 4-cylinder FPT in a Farmall 75C - it's a tractor engine, not a refined one
- AGCO's dealer network has consolidated hard in some regions, so check parts support near you before buying
- Open-station model has a basic flat platform and seat - comfort features are thin until you pay up for the cab
- Resale is respectable but still trails the equivalent green tractor at auction
- At nearly 7,500 lbs bare it's too much tractor for small properties - this is a real farm machine, not an estate tractor
- The emissions system brings sensors and fault codes that a pre-Tier-4 tractor never had, and clearing them is a dealer job
Massey Ferguson 4709
What they like
- 77 hp at the PTO rated at 2,000 rpm rather than at rated speed, which is where a baler or a mower conditioner actually runs
- 4,850 lb of lift 24 inches behind the ball ends, more than double what Massey's largest compact manages
- The 3.3 L AGCO Power three-cylinder with intercooled turbo and high-pressure common rail is AGCO's own engine, so parts and service do not depend on an outside supplier
- 12x12 two-range power shuttle with an electro-hydraulic shuttle lever standard, and a Dyna-2 24x24 with Speedmatching and brake-to-neutral available
- 17.2 gpm of pump flow, and the same hydraulic system as the whole 4700 range
- Air-conditioned cab optional, which nothing in the cheaper 2600 H utility range offers
What they complain about
- The platform figure buys a folding-ROPS machine; AGCO's price book puts the same 4WD 4709 in the Deluxe Cab at $74,756, a $14,552 step for weather protection alone
- Massey publishes no weight and no fuel tank capacity for individual 4700 models, so two of the figures a buyer would compare are simply absent
- The MF931X loader lifts 3,420 lb at the pivot pins but only 2,140 lb at 31.5 inches forward, and it is a $5,370 option that first needs the $3,518 loader-provision package fitted at the factory
- Hitch capacity and hydraulic flow are identical to the 70 hp 4707 and the 99 hp 4710, so only engine power separates the three
- A three-cylinder at 90 hp is working hard, and it is a narrower power band than the four-cylinder rivals at this size
- Massey states no emissions tier on the 4700 page, unusual at this horsepower where aftertreatment is a real running cost
