65.4 hp engine · 52 PTO−20% to the shaft

Deluxe trim at the bottom of the M4 range: the same 203 cu in V3307 as its siblings, detuned to 65.4 hp and 52 PTO hp. Costs more than the higher-powered M4-071 because the deluxe fittings, not the engine, set the price.

On the price: The maker's own published starting figure for the base build. A dealer adds a loader, a deck and freight on top.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners say

What they like

  • Electro-hydraulic on-the-go 4WD engages under load without stopping or declutching
  • Two standard remotes with flow control, against one on the M4-071
  • 540/540E PTO standard, so light implements can run at reduced engine speed and save fuel
  • Identical 3,307 lb hitch capacity and 16.7 gpm pump to the 72 hp models - the frame is not downrated with the engine
  • 6,008 lb of ballast weight helps the LA1154 loader work without adding rear weight

What they complain about

  • Costs $1,501 more than the 72.1 hp M4-071 while making 6.7 less engine hp and 8 less at the PTO
  • 52 PTO hp is the least in the series for a 6,008 lb tractor, so it is the one that will feel worked on a heavy rotary cutter
  • Cab only, with no ROPS build offered
  • Shares the same 2,674 lb pivot-pin loader lift as the rest of the range, so the extra spend buys no lifting ability

Cheapest way into Kubota's M4 cab frame, and the only one of the three that is not a Deluxe. Same V3307-CR-TE4 and same F12/R12 synchronized box as the M4D-071, but with mechanical on-the-go 4WD, one standard remote and 540 PTO only.

Flagship of the M4 line and the most expensive tractor Kubota sells under 105 hp outside the M5. Deluxe fittings meet the full 72.1 hp tune - electro-hydraulic 4WD, two remotes with flow control and 540/540E all standard.

Middle of Kubota's three factory backhoe machines, and the one that behaves most like a compact backhoe loader. HST Plus with six ranges, 25 gpm of pump capacity and a self-levelling TL1300 loader put it in contractor territory rather than property-owner territory.
