Yanmar YM347
Compact
46 hp engine · 35.5 PTO−23% to the shaft

Same 4TNV88C block, chassis, loader and 8F/8R reverser as the YM342, tuned for 46 hp instead of 41.4. About $1,200 buys 4.6 gross and 4.5 PTO horsepower, which is among the cheaper power steps anywhere in Yanmar's range.

On the price: This maker publishes no price, so the figure comes from dealer listings. Regional dealers price the same machine differently.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners say

What they like

  • 35.5 PTO hp for about $1,200 over the YM342 is the best value step in the YM3 range, since nothing else about the machine changes
  • Matches the gross horsepower of the YT347 for roughly $12,300 less, if you can live without the I-HMT transmission and cab option
  • Shares the YM342's Category 1 and 2 hitch, 3,190 lb lower-link lift and 2,500 lb YL605 loader, so implements swap straight across
  • Independent 540/540E PTO with a telescopic lower link makes hitching heavy Category 2 implements manageable alone
  • 10-year / 3,000-hour powertrain warranty on a mechanically simple gear-drive machine is a strong long-term ownership case

What they complain about

  • Dry single-plate clutch and a synchronized rather than power reverser, so heavy loader cycling wears the clutch rather than a hydraulic pack
  • No cab or factory enclosure offered on the YM3 series at any price
  • 14.6 GPM total flow is unchanged from the 41.4 hp YM342, so the extra engine power does not reach the hydraulics
  • Aftertreatment is unstated on both the model page and the spec sheet, leaving the DPF question to the dealer
  • 3,916 lb bare weight is the same as the YM342, so the added power makes wheelspin, not traction, the limit on a loaded bucket

Yanmar's i-HMT drive is the headline: a hydro-mechanical transmission that works like an HST but holds power like a gearbox, and almost nothing else at 34 hp offers one. Ten years and 3,000 hours of powertrain cover is the other reason it gets cross-shopped.

Yanmar's gear-drive utility platform starts here: an 8F/8R synchronized reverser, Category 1 and 2 hitch rated at 3,190 lb, and a 2,500 lb loader - the same front end fitted to the far dearer YT3 machines. Straightforward mechanics at a working-tractor price.

Newest of Yanmar's platforms, launched to sit between the YM2 and YM3 ranges with a factory-option backhoe and an independent electric-hydraulic PTO. A hydrostatic version, the SM240H, lists about $2,100 higher and gives up 0.7 PTO horsepower.
