A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners of each one say

Massey Ferguson 1M.35

What they like

  • 2,535 lb of lift measured 24 inches behind the ball ends is a strong figure for 36 hp, and it is the conservative measuring point rather than the flattering one
  • 12.6 gpm of pump flow with another 7 gpm dedicated to steering, so the loader keeps its speed through a turn
  • 1,870 lb at the loader measured 19.5 inches forward of the pivot pin - more than double the 1M.25 and rated at the harder point
  • The 12-speed power shuttle and the three-range hydrostatic are both offered on the same model, and the shuttle keeps 1.8 more PTO horsepower than the hydro
  • Air-conditioned cab is optional, taking it to 3,869 lb, so it can be a year-round machine
  • Identical hitch, loader and chassis to the 1M.40, which makes the two genuinely interchangeable on implements

What they complain about

  • The hydrostatic build is $711 dearer than this power shuttle and the cab $9,267 more again, so this figure is the cheapest way into a 1M.35 rather than a typical one
  • Nobody publishes a fuel tank capacity, which on a 36 hp machine expected to work all day is a real gap
  • 27.5 hp at the PTO on the shuttle and 25.7 on the hydrostatic, so a quarter of the engine's output is gone before the implement sees it
  • Shares every capacity figure with the 3 hp stronger 1M.40, so the only thing the cheaper model gives up is engine power
  • Massey publishes no loader model number, no hydraulic detail and no warranty term on the M Series page itself

Massey Ferguson 2605H

What they like

  • 2,755 lb at the hitch, matching the 65 hp 2606H, out of the lightest chassis in the range at 4,894 lb
  • 46 hp at the PTO from 55 at the engine, and the turbocharged intercooled Simpson makes it low in the rev range where a mower conditioner wants it
  • An 8x8 synchro shuttle is offered as an alternative to the base 8F x 2R sliding mesh, which is the version worth having
  • Skipping 4WD saves the front axle, its differential and their service costs on a machine that may never need them
  • 15.7 gpm total flow, the same hydraulic system as the rest of the series

What they complain about

  • The $25,114 figure is the two-wheel-drive build; four-wheel drive is a separate factory configuration at $30,510 on the same price book, so loader work, slopes and snow cost about $5,400 more than the headline number suggests
  • The FLx2815 loader is a $5,264 option on top of the base figure and the 2WD tire sets are $2,274 or $4,138 more, so the entry price is a tractor with neither
  • The 2WD-only FLx2815 loader is rated 2,810 lb at the pivot pins, but a front loader on a two-wheel-drive tractor has no front traction to push a pile with
  • The base transmission is a sliding mesh with two reverse gears; the synchro shuttle is the upgrade, not the standard
  • No fuel tank capacity published, and no cab is offered anywhere in the range
  • The specification databases list a 4WD weight of 5,394 lb for this model, which contradicts Massey's own 2WD-only listing - worth confirming with a dealer before ordering
  • Its 2,810 lb loader figure is the FLx2815, which AGCO fits only to 2WD 2600H tractors - so this model out-lifts its more powerful 4WD siblings on paper because they take the smaller MF911X instead, not because it is the stronger machine
