MSRP for 2WD with the 8x2 sideshift transmission

Massey Ferguson2605H
Utility
55 hp engine · 46 PTO−16% to the shaft

The odd one out in the 2600 H range: Massey lists it as two-wheel drive only, where every other model in the series offers 4WD. In exchange it turbocharges the 2.6-litre Simpson to 55 hp and lifts 2,755 lb, the same as the 65 hp model above it, at the lightest weight in the range.

On the price: This figure is the maker's published price for 2WD with the 8x2 sideshift transmission. It is a real published number but not a like-for-like one, so nothing on this site ranks it against the bare-tractor prices — not the per-dollar picks, not the matchup pairings.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

What owners say

What they like

  • 2,755 lb at the hitch, matching the 65 hp 2606H, out of the lightest chassis in the range at 4,894 lb
  • 46 hp at the PTO from 55 at the engine, and the turbocharged intercooled Simpson makes it low in the rev range where a mower conditioner wants it
  • An 8x8 synchro shuttle is offered as an alternative to the base 8F x 2R sliding mesh, which is the version worth having
  • Skipping 4WD saves the front axle, its differential and their service costs on a machine that may never need them
  • 15.7 gpm total flow, the same hydraulic system as the rest of the series

What they complain about

  • The $25,114 figure is the two-wheel-drive build; four-wheel drive is a separate factory configuration at $30,510 on the same price book, so loader work, slopes and snow cost about $5,400 more than the headline number suggests
  • The FLx2815 loader is a $5,264 option on top of the base figure and the 2WD tire sets are $2,274 or $4,138 more, so the entry price is a tractor with neither
  • The 2WD-only FLx2815 loader is rated 2,810 lb at the pivot pins, but a front loader on a two-wheel-drive tractor has no front traction to push a pile with
  • The base transmission is a sliding mesh with two reverse gears; the synchro shuttle is the upgrade, not the standard
  • No fuel tank capacity published, and no cab is offered anywhere in the range
  • The specification databases list a 4WD weight of 5,394 lb for this model, which contradicts Massey's own 2WD-only listing - worth confirming with a dealer before ordering
  • Its 2,810 lb loader figure is the FLx2815, which AGCO fits only to 2WD 2600H tractors - so this model out-lifts its more powerful 4WD siblings on paper because they take the smaller MF911X instead, not because it is the stronger machine

Bottom of Massey's cheapest utility range and the only 2600 H with a sliding-mesh gearbox rather than a synchro shuttle. A 2.6-litre Simpson three-cylinder, 2,204 lb at the hitch, and 4WD engaged by a push-pull lever - a deliberately plain tractor for loader-free field work.

Sits between the 2WD-only 2605H and the catalogued 2607H, and unlike the two cheaper models it comes with the 8x8 synchro shuttle as standard rather than a sliding mesh. Turbocharged 2.6-litre Simpson, 55 hp at the PTO, and the same 2,755 lb hitch as everything above the 2604H.

Simpsons-built 2.6L three-cylinder with no DPF, an 8x8 synchro shuttle and 64 PTO hp: a deliberately plain utility tractor aimed at people who would rather fix it than diagnose it. The 2,755 lb hitch figure is quoted 24 inches behind, so it is an honest one.
