A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
New Holland Boomer 50
What they like
- The 1.9-litre LS L32L19 is turbocharged and common-rail at every hp point in the series, so the small end is not a detuned naturally aspirated engine
- 42.5 PTO hp on the shuttle clears the practical floor for a 7 ft mower conditioner or a mid-size round baler
- Shares the 45's frame, axles and 260TLA loader exactly, so parts, implements and loader attachments carry straight across
- Boomer Guard-6 runs 24 months or 750 hours bumper-to-bumper before the powertrain cover carries on to 72 months or 1,500 hours
- 16x16 synchro shuttle with a left-hand dash-mounted lever keeps both hands available on loader work
What they complain about
- Costs about $4,162 more than the Boomer 45 for 4.3 PTO hp and no change to hitch, loader, hydraulics or weight
- 8.2 GPM implement flow is the same figure carried all the way down to the 35 hp Boomer
- 10.5 gal of fuel on a 3,490 lb tractor is a short working day under load
- Cab pushes it to $53,973, within reach of a ROPS utility tractor with far more hitch
New Holland Boomer 55
What they like
- The 1.9-litre LS L32L19 is turbocharged and common-rail at every hp point in the series, so the small end is not a detuned naturally aspirated engine
- 46.7 PTO hp is the most on offer in the Boomer line and covers a 7 ft flail or a small square baler
- Same 2,756 lb hitch, 260TLA loader and 16x16 shuttle as the Boomer 45, so nothing about the machine is a special-order variant
- Boomer Guard-6 runs 24 months or 750 hours bumper-to-bumper before the powertrain cover carries on to 72 months or 1,500 hours
- Compact-frame dimensions with utility-class PTO output, which matters where a Workmaster 55 simply will not fit
What they complain about
- $49,983 for a ROPS compact puts it within a few thousand of utility tractors with a 3,500 lb hitch and 12.6 GPM of flow
- Hydraulics and hitch are unchanged from the 45 hp model, so the extra 8.5 PTO hp has nowhere to go but the PTO shaft
- The 3,490 lb tractor still carries only 10.5 gal, the same tank fitted to the 35 hp Boomer
- Cab version at $57,998 costs more than several ROPS utility tractors in the 65-75 hp class
