A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
Yanmar YT347
What they like
- 39.5 PTO hp from 46 gross is only a 14% drivetrain loss, against 23% on the gear-drive YM347 running the same size engine
- I-HMT shifts and stops without a clutch pedal while sending most torque through a mechanical path, so it avoids the fuel penalty a pure hydrostatic pays
- Electronic cruise control with A/B throttle presets lets you set and recall two working speeds, which matters on repeated mowing or tilling passes
- 15.8 GPM total flow, 10.1 GPM of it on the implement circuit, is the highest in Yanmar's compact range
- 3,307 lb hitch capacity at the ball ends beats the gear-drive YM347's 3,190 lb despite the lighter chassis
- Loader control valve and joystick are standard rather than a dealer-added kit
What they complain about
- About $12,300 more than the YM347, which makes the same 46 gross hp - the premium is almost entirely the transmission
- I-HMT is a more complex assembly than a gear box or a plain hydrostatic, and repairs outside the 10-year powertrain window are dealer work
- 12.7-gallon tank is smaller than the cheaper YM347's 13.2 gallons despite this being the pricier machine
- Naturally aspirated, so it loses power with altitude where a turbocharged rival would hold it
- The factory cab is a separate model, YT347C, at roughly $55,999 rather than an option on this row
John Deere 4052R
What they like
- Mechanical self-levelling on the 440R keeps a loaded pallet flat through the lift, which matters more than raw capacity on fork work
- A premium ComfortGard cab with heat and air conditioning is a factory option; the equivalent 4052M cannot be ordered with one
- 17.4 gpm total, 11.2 gpm implement and a separate 6.2 gpm steering circuit
- eHydro is standard with cruise control, and the 12F/12R PowrReverser remains available for 1.7 more PTO horsepower
- Turning radius of 9.19 ft with brakes keeps a 3,770 lb machine usable in a yard
What they complain about
- 39.1 PTO hp with eHydro is 1.7 hp less than the cheaper 4052M delivers through its standard PowrReverser
- Deere's published maximum-height 440R figures are internally inconsistent, printing the 500 mm-ahead capacity above the pivot-pin capacity; the 1,500 mm row is the one that reads correctly
- The cab build drops fuel from 15 gal to 13.8 gal and adds 905 lb
- Dealer sheets split on whether this engine is rated 50.8 or 51.5 hp gross; the stated 37.9 kW converts to 50.8, which is the figure used here
- A diesel particulate filter and oxidation catalyst are part of the package, with regeneration cycles to match
