John Deere 3035D

John Deere 3035D
Compact
34.2 hp engine · 30.4 PTO−11% to the shaft

Ten more horsepower than the 3025D from the same 1.6 L Yanmar block and the same 8F/8R shuttle gearbox, with 30.4 hp reaching the PTO - enough for a 6 ft rotary cutter. Crossing 25 hp brings a diesel particulate filter the 3025D avoids.

On the price: The maker's own published starting figure for the base build. A dealer adds a loader, a deck and freight on top.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

What owners say

What they like

  • 30.4 PTO hp turns a 6 ft rotary cutter comfortably, which the 3025D cannot really drive
  • Gear drive sends more engine power to the PTO than a hydrostatic of the same rating, because there is no pump-and-motor loss in the path
  • 2,081 lb at 24 in. behind the link arms, the same hitch as the turbocharged 3043D above it
  • 10.3 gpm total pump flow, 5.9 gpm of it to implements - a step up from the 3025D's 8.9 gpm
  • 9.7 gal of fuel is generous for the class and 2.2 gal more than any 3E model carries
  • Around $25,739 on Deere's published base list, which puts it near the hydrostatic 3032E while offering four more horsepower

What they complain about

  • Above 25 hp this engine runs a diesel particulate filter with regeneration cycles, the exact thing the 3025D below it sidesteps
  • No hydrostatic option exists on the D line, so loader cycles mean clutching and shuttling all day
  • No cab is offered on any 3D model
  • The 300E loader's 1,186 lb at the pivot pin drops to 845 lb measured 500 mm ahead of the pin, which is the number that matters on forks
  • No cruise control, which the hydrostatic 3E and 3R models offer and which is missed on long mowing passes

Deere's volume compact and the machine most cross-shopped against a Kubota L2502: 31.2 hp, two-range hydrostatic, and a 300E loader, at 2,222 lb. The E line trades the 3R's cab, flow and hitch for a price several thousand lower.

Deere's cheapest full-frame compact, and deliberately stripped to get there: basic dash, no mid-PTO, no premium hydraulics. The 1,356 lb three-point and 2,354 lb frame are what separate it from a 2-Series, which it undercuts while out-lifting.

Turbocharging is what separates this from the 3032E below it: a 1.568 L Yanmar 3TNV86CT making 36.7 hp and 30 at the PTO, in a chassis 446 lb heavier. Hitch, hydraulics and loader are unchanged from the rest of the E line.
