A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
John Deere 3035D
What they like
- 30.4 PTO hp turns a 6 ft rotary cutter comfortably, which the 3025D cannot really drive
- Gear drive sends more engine power to the PTO than a hydrostatic of the same rating, because there is no pump-and-motor loss in the path
- 2,081 lb at 24 in. behind the link arms, the same hitch as the turbocharged 3043D above it
- 10.3 gpm total pump flow, 5.9 gpm of it to implements - a step up from the 3025D's 8.9 gpm
- 9.7 gal of fuel is generous for the class and 2.2 gal more than any 3E model carries
- Around $25,739 on Deere's published base list, which puts it near the hydrostatic 3032E while offering four more horsepower
What they complain about
- Above 25 hp this engine runs a diesel particulate filter with regeneration cycles, the exact thing the 3025D below it sidesteps
- No hydrostatic option exists on the D line, so loader cycles mean clutching and shuttling all day
- No cab is offered on any 3D model
- The 300E loader's 1,186 lb at the pivot pin drops to 845 lb measured 500 mm ahead of the pin, which is the number that matters on forks
- No cruise control, which the hydrostatic 3E and 3R models offer and which is missed on long mowing passes
John Deere 3032E
What they like
- Two-range hydrostatic makes the loader work this machine is mostly bought for genuinely easy, with no clutching on direction changes
- 25 PTO hp from 31.2 gross is a good conversion for a hydrostatic, and enough for a 5 ft rotary cutter
- At 2,222 lb it is the lightest 3-Series, which helps on turf and makes it easier to trailer behind a half-ton
- The 300E quick-attach loader is the same unit fitted to the far dearer 3043D, so the entry model gives up nothing in loader hardware
- Six years or 2,000 hours of powertrain coverage, among the longest terms in the class
What they complain about
- 1,356 lb at 24 in. behind the link arms is well under the 2,081 lb the gear-drive 3025D manages for similar money, so heavy rear implements are out
- 7.5 gal of fuel is 2.2 gal less than any D model and the tank most often mentioned as the machine's limit on a long day
- No cab is offered, and cruise control is an extra rather than standard equipment
- 9.3 gpm total with 5.3 gpm reaching implements is thin if you want a backhoe and loader working together
- Crossing 25 hp puts a diesel particulate filter on this engine with regeneration cycles to sit through
- Dealer 'starting at' figures for this model routinely include the 300E loader, so they are not comparable with the bare-tractor list price shown here
