On the price: This maker publishes no price, so the figure comes from dealer listings. Regional dealers price the same machine differently.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

What owners say

What they like

  • 47.0 PTO hp is enough for 7-foot cutters, round balers and mid-size tillers that the 35.5 hp YM347 would struggle to turn
  • Roughly $11,700 cheaper than the YT359, which makes identical gross horsepower - the saving is the I-HMT transmission you go without
  • 15.9 GPM total flow, 10.2 GPM of it to implements, is the highest of any gear-drive tractor Yanmar sells
  • Independent 540/540E PTO with telescopic lower links, so heavy Category 2 implements can be hitched without a second pair of hands
  • 10-year / 3,000-hour powertrain warranty on a mechanically simple synchronized-shuttle machine
  • 13.2-gallon tank matches the smaller YM3 models despite the larger engine, and fills from the driver's side

What they complain about

  • Yanmar's own YM359 model page omits PTO horsepower entirely; the 47.0 hp figure only appears in the YM3 series brochure
  • 3,190 lb lower-link lift is identical to the 41.4 hp YM342, so the hitch does not scale with 17 extra horsepower
  • F8-R8 with a dry single clutch and synchronized rather than power reverser, so heavy loader cycling works the clutch
  • Loader lift stays 2,500 lb across the whole YM3 range, which is modest for a 4,158 lb machine at this power
  • No cab option anywhere in the YM3 series, which is a real gap at 59 hp where rivals offer one

A larger 3.3-litre four replaces the YT347's 2.2 at the head of the I-HMT range, and 52.0 hp reaches the PTO - a 12% drivetrain loss that no gear-drive Yanmar comes close to. The climate-controlled YT359C cab version lists around $60,099.

The one Yanmar tractor not powered by a Yanmar engine - a Deutz four drives it, paired with a power shuttle and a dual-entry climate cab as standard. At 5,115 lb of Category 2 hitch it is the heaviest-lifting machine the brand sells in North America.

Newest of Yanmar's platforms, launched to sit between the YM2 and YM3 ranges with a factory-option backhoe and an independent electric-hydraulic PTO. A hydrostatic version, the SM240H, lists about $2,100 higher and gives up 0.7 PTO horsepower.
