A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
Case IH Farmall 50A
What they like
- Internal EGR with a DOC and a maintenance-free particulate catalyst means no diesel particulate filter to regenerate, which is the headline difference against a Deere 5045E in the same slot
- The 8F x 8R mechanical shuttle is column-mounted, so loader direction changes need the clutch but not a reach across the platform
- Dual gear pumps split 11.9 gpm to the implement circuit and 5.5 gpm to steering, so a loaded bucket does not make the wheel go heavy
- 540/540E PTO is offered, and 540E drops the engine to 2,016 rpm for light work like raking - real fuel saving on a tractor this size
- A 96.4 in wheelbase and 5,060 lb MFD weight give it the stability a 40-hp compact simply does not have with a full bucket
- Telescopic lower links and stabilizers come with the hitch rather than as an option, which makes hooking up mounted implements a one-person job
What they complain about
- Case IH publishes no list price and its dealers quote on request, so the page cannot tell you what it costs - every figure that surfaces publicly bundles a loader
- 2WD is the standard front axle and MFD is an extra-cost option, so the 4WD this entry describes is not the base build
- Non-cab only in the brochure, so if you want a heated cab you are pushed to the 55A family or the utility C series
- The 2,701 lb hitch is well under the 4,299 lb the 55A carries, and that gap decides which one can run a mid-size baler
- Case IH's own page quotes 43 PTO hp where the series brochure says 45 - a two-horsepower disagreement the maker has not reconciled
- Only one rear remote is standard; a second and the mid-mount pair are options you have to specify with the loader
Case IH Farmall 60A
What they like
- 51 PTO hp from 60 engine hp is the strongest ratio in the light utility A family and enough for a 7-foot cutter or a small round baler
- Internal EGR plus a DOC and maintenance-free particulate catalyst - no DPF regeneration to interrupt a hay day
- Same frame, wheelbase and hydraulics as the 50A, so the step up costs horsepower money rather than a different chassis
- 540E economy PTO lets light jobs run at 2,016 engine rpm instead of 2,575, which is noticeably quieter as well as cheaper
- Dual gear pumps keep steering flow separate from the 11.9 gpm implement circuit
What they complain about
- No published price anywhere - Case IH quotes through dealers and the public listings all include a loader
- The 13-gallon tank is small for a 60 hp tractor doing field work; the heavier 65A carries 21.7 gallons
- 2WD is standard and MFD is an option, so the four-wheel-drive build costs extra
- 8F x 8R mechanical shuttle only on this model - the 12x12 power shuttle that makes loader work clutchless is reserved for the 55A/65A/75A chassis
- 75-amp alternator is modest if you plan to run a cab enclosure, lights and a beacon
