Case IHFarmall 50A
Utility
53 hp engine · 43 PTO−19% to the shaft

A genuinely different machine from the 55A above it, and the cheapest Case IH small utility: a 2.2-litre FPT three rather than the 2.9, a Cat II hitch rated 2,701 lb rather than 4,299, and a 4,442 lb bare frame. Case IH publishes no price on it, so the figure comes from a dealer quote.

On the price: Neither this maker nor any dealer reachable from here publishes a bare-tractor price for this model — every listing found either says “call for price” or bundles a loader. That is how this brand sells, so expect to get a number by asking a dealer rather than by looking it up.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners say

What they like

  • Internal EGR with a DOC and a maintenance-free particulate catalyst means no diesel particulate filter to regenerate, which is the headline difference against a Deere 5045E in the same slot
  • The 8F x 8R mechanical shuttle is column-mounted, so loader direction changes need the clutch but not a reach across the platform
  • Dual gear pumps split 11.9 gpm to the implement circuit and 5.5 gpm to steering, so a loaded bucket does not make the wheel go heavy
  • 540/540E PTO is offered, and 540E drops the engine to 2,016 rpm for light work like raking - real fuel saving on a tractor this size
  • A 96.4 in wheelbase and 5,060 lb MFD weight give it the stability a 40-hp compact simply does not have with a full bucket
  • Telescopic lower links and stabilizers come with the hitch rather than as an option, which makes hooking up mounted implements a one-person job

What they complain about

  • Case IH publishes no list price and its dealers quote on request, so the page cannot tell you what it costs - every figure that surfaces publicly bundles a loader
  • 2WD is the standard front axle and MFD is an extra-cost option, so the 4WD this entry describes is not the base build
  • Non-cab only in the brochure, so if you want a heated cab you are pushed to the 55A family or the utility C series
  • The 2,701 lb hitch is well under the 4,299 lb the 55A carries, and that gap decides which one can run a mid-size baler
  • Case IH's own page quotes 43 PTO hp where the series brochure says 45 - a two-horsepower disagreement the maker has not reconciled
  • Only one rear remote is standard; a second and the mid-mount pair are options you have to specify with the loader

FPT's 3.4-litre four with internal cooled EGR and no regeneration, dropped into Case IH's small utility frame. The 12x12 power shuttle and 3,664 lb hitch aim it at a Deere 5075E and at New Holland's Workmaster 75, which shares its CNH driveline in a different colour.

Middle rung of the light small-utility trio, and the one that earns its keep on PTO work: 51 PTO hp out of 60 engine hp is an 85 percent driveline efficiency, better than most compacts manage. Same 2.2-litre FPT, same 2,701 lb hitch and 13-gallon tank as the 50A below it.

70 hp squeezed out of the same 2.2-litre FPT three that powers the 50A, which makes this the hardest-worked engine in the small utility A line and the cheapest route to 59 PTO hp in red paint. The hitch and hydraulics do not grow with the power, and that is the trade.
