A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
Case IH Farmall 55A
What they like
- 4,299 lb of hitch at 24 inches behind the pin, rising to 4,740 lb with the optional cylinders - more lift than most 75 hp compacts and the reason this chassis exists
- Cooled external EGR with a diesel oxidation catalyst, so there is no particulate filter and no regeneration cycle to sit through
- 21.7 gallons of fuel is nearly double the light 50A/60A/70A chassis and turns a half day into a full one
- The optional 12x12 power shuttle changes direction without the clutch, which matters if the loader is on all day
- Cat II/I hitch with top-link draft sensing, so ground-engaging implements actually work rather than just hanging on
- A cab is available on this frame, and CNH builds the same machine in blue as the Workmaster 55 - two dealer networks, one parts list
What they complain about
- No published price of any kind: Case IH lists nothing, there is no Case IH price book on the public state contracts that carry New Holland's, and every reachable dealer figure includes the loader
- The factory L610 loader is rated only 1,828 lb to maximum height in non-self-levelling form, which is weak next to the 4,299 lb hitch behind it
- Case IH quotes the loader 'to max height' while New Holland quotes its twin 800 mm ahead of the pin, so the two numbers cannot be compared even though the tractors are related
- Base transmission is an 8x8 mechanical shuttle with a dry clutch; the power shuttle that makes this tractor pleasant is an option
- 2WD is the standard front axle and a 120-amp alternator is all you get, so loader-and-cab builds add up fast
- Case IH's page quotes 48 PTO hp against the series brochure's 43, and the maker has not reconciled the two
Case IH Farmall 65A
What they like
- 56 PTO hp handles a small round baler, a 9-foot cutter or a mixer wagon without the engine hunting
- The 4,299 lb standard hitch (4,740 lb optional) is the single biggest reason to pick this over the lighter 60A
- No diesel particulate filter - cooled EGR and a DOC do the emissions work, so bedding and feeding runs never trigger a regen
- Low-profile and poultry configurations are catalogued on this chassis, which very few tractors in the class offer from the factory
- Optional 12x12 power shuttle, and a 12x12 with creeper for anything that needs to crawl
- Two rear remotes are standard with a third available, so a grapple or a bale spear does not use up the loader circuit
What they complain about
- Price is unpublished from every angle - no Case IH figure, no Case IH document on the public contract sites, and dealer listings that bundle a loader
- The L610 loader's 1,828 lb non-self-levelling rating to max height is modest for a 6,283 lb tractor
- Fixed-displacement 12.6 gpm hydraulics trail the 16 gpm that a Deere 5065E or a Kubota M5 offers, so a grapple cycles slowly
- 2WD standard, MFD optional, cab optional - the tractor in the brochure photographs is several options above the base build
- Case IH's page now says 65 hp / 56 PTO where the brochure says 64 / 51, so published figures for this model disagree with each other
