A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners of each one say

LS MT340HC

What they like

  • A sealed cab at 40 hp is the cheapest entry to one in the LS range, and several rivals offer no cab at all below 45 hp
  • 12.4 gal of fuel against the MT335H's 10.6, which matters because a cab tractor gets used in weather that keeps the work going
  • 32.0 hp at the PTO, enough for a six-foot rear blower or cutter, with 13.7 GPM of total flow behind the loader
  • LL3116 loader rated 2,185 lb, unchanged from the lighter ROPS model, so the cab costs nothing in lifting
  • Six-year powertrain warranty with no deductible
  • LS's own L3C19-T common-rail three-cylinder, the same engine as the rest of the MT3 frame

What they complain about

  • No published price from LS or any dealer - one dealer model-list shows the MT340HC as 'Get Price', and neither of the two dealers that print bare LS prices stocks it
  • There is no ROPS version, so the cab cannot be declined to save money
  • 1,808 lb at the hitch is a Category 1 rating shared with the 24 hp MT226, which is the weak point of this machine
  • 3,661 lb with the cab on a compact chassis is heavy for turf, and 376 lb more than the MT335H
  • LS states no measuring point for the 2,185 lb loader figure, so it is not comparable with rival pin ratings
  • No cruise control listed, on a hydrostatic cab tractor where it would be most useful

LS MT347

What they like

  • 2,755 lb of Category 2 lift, a 52 percent jump over the MT340HC's Cat 1 rating for 7 more horsepower - this is the real step in the MT3 range
  • 39.9 hp at the PTO on the hydrostatic against 37.6 on the 16x16 synchro shuttle, so the easier transmission is also the more powerful one
  • 2,396 lb at the loader with the LL4106, up from the 2,185 lb LL3116 on the smaller MT3 models
  • Offered as ROPS or cab and as a shuttle or a hydrostatic, so one model covers four quite different machines
  • The cab build gets a bigger 15.0 GPM pump and a 12.4 gal tank in place of 13.7 GPM and 10.6 gal
  • Six-year powertrain cover with parts and labour and no deductible

What they complain about

  • No usable price. One dealer publishes $39,523 for the bare open-station MT347 and another publishes $47,676 for the cab build, but those describe different machines rather than two readings of one, and subtracting an inferred cab premium would be an invented number
  • 10.6 gal of fuel on the ROPS build is small for 47 hp with a Category 2 hitch behind it
  • LS states no measuring point for the 2,396 lb loader rating, so it cannot be ranked against a Deere or Kubota pin figure
  • The 2,396 lb loader is shared with the 52 hp MT352 and the 57 hp MT357, so the front end stops scaling here
  • No cruise control is listed on the hydrostatic
  • Weight runs from 3,935 lb in ROPS form to 4,446 lb with the cab, so the cab option costs half a ton of turf pressure
