A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners of each one say

LS MT463

What they like

  • 3,483 lb of Category II lift quoted 24 in behind the hitch end, which is the honest measurement - most makers publish the flattering ball-end figure instead
  • 21.1 GPM total with 14.5 GPM reaching the implement circuit runs a loader and a rear remote together without either slowing
  • 24.3-gallon tank is more than double what the MT3 frame carries, which is what turns it into an all-day machine
  • LL5001 loader lifts 3,488 lb to a 132.9 in maximum height, so it will load a trailer rather than just a wheelbarrow
  • Both a power shuttle (PS) and a factory cab (C) are catalogued on the same frame
  • 54.1 hp at the PTO from 63 gross is only a 14 percent loss through a synchro shuttle

What they complain about

  • LS publishes no price; the two dealer figures for the open-station gear build differed by about $2,700
  • The base transmission is a 16F/16R synchromesh shuttle, so every direction change on loader work still goes through the clutch unless the PS power shuttle is specified
  • No hydrostatic option at all in the MT4 series, which rules it out for anyone who wants one
  • LS still states no measuring point for the 3,488 lb loader rating, even though it does publish one for the 3-point
  • The MT473 sits directly above it with the same loader and hitch and 10 more horsepower, which makes the 463 an awkward middle choice
  • At 5,313 lb it is too heavy for lawn work, so it needs a second machine for anything delicate

LS MT357HC

What they like

  • 48.4 hp at the PTO on the hydrostatic is higher than the 45.6 hp the gear build manages, so choosing HST here costs nothing in take-off power
  • 15.0 GPM of total flow in the HST cab specification, against 12.3 GPM on the gear ROPS build - the cab version gets the biggest pump in the series
  • 2,755 lb of Category 2 lift lets it carry full-size ground-engaging implements rather than the Cat 1 gear a 57 hp compact usually takes
  • A hydrostatic transmission and a sealed cab on the same machine is unusual at this price; most cab tractors in the class are shuttle-shift only
  • Six-year powertrain cover with no deductible, twice the usual term at this size

What they complain about

  • The two dealer figures differ by about 11 percent, so the price is shown as a range - LS publishes nothing to settle it
  • At 4,446 lb with the cab it is nearly 600 lb heavier than the ROPS build, which costs ground clearance and soft-ground manners
  • 12.4 gal of fuel is small for a 57 hp cab tractor working all day
  • The 2,396 lb LL4106 loader is shared with the 47 hp MT347, so the front end does not scale with the engine
  • LS states no measuring point for the loader rating
  • No cruise control is listed, which is a real omission on a hydrostatic machine meant for long mowing runs
