On the price: The maker publishes one starting price for this series rather than a figure per model, and this is the cheapest model in it.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners say

What they like

  • 5,952 lb of 3-point lift at 24 inches aft is by a wide margin the most rear capacity of any Mahindra in this catalog
  • A power shuttle is available on the 15F/15R box, so loader cycles need no clutch work
  • Turbocharged, intercooled, common-rail injection is the most modern engine Mahindra sells in the US
  • 15.7 GPM total flow with 11.1 GPM reaching implements, close to double what the 4500 series manages
  • A cab with both heat and air conditioning is offered, which neither the 4500 nor 5100 series provides at any price
  • 23.8 gallons of fuel and 6,548 lb of tractor put it in the same working class as the mid-size machines from Kubota and Deere
  • The 6075-4L loader lifts 3,609 lb and reaches 133 inches, enough for stacking round bales two high

What they complain about

  • $43,189 open station lands close to comparably sized Deere and Kubota utility tractors, so the Mahindra price advantage narrows as the machines get bigger
  • Five years and 3,000 hours of powertrain coverage - the 6000 series does not get the seven-year term Mahindra's compacts carry
  • Mahindra's no-DPF claim covers the 1100 and 2100 series; the 6000's common-rail engine carries no such published claim, and Mahindra names no Tier level for it either
  • A turbo and common-rail injection mean more to go wrong than on the naturally aspirated 4500 and 5100 series
  • Mahindra does not publish where the 3,609 lb loader rating was measured
  • At this size a long drive to a dealer stops being an inconvenience and becomes downtime, and Mahindra's US network is far sparser than its rivals'

Gathered from owner reports

What owners report

Two owner accounts exist and they pull in opposite directions. One bought into the brand at this size deliberately, having used gear, shuttle, power shuttle and hydrostatic transmissions over the years, and says the value is real - a great deal more tractor for the money than the established brands, on the condition that the dealer is solid, because the support network is not. His practical advice is transmission-specific and firmly held: for loader work take power shuttle or hydrostatic, because six hours of loader cycles on a borrowed plain shuttle left his clutch leg finished. The other account is an owner whose machine was out of action with a broken pin inside the loader lever linkage, struggling to get his Mahindra dealer to identify the part at all.

What comes up favourably

  • Owners describe getting considerably more tractor for the money at this size than the established brands offer, which is the reason the model gets cross-shopped at all

What comes up as a complaint

  • Parts identification can be the bottleneck - one owner's machine sat out of commission with a broken pin in the loader lever linkage while his dealer went back and forth without identifying the part
  • Owners are candid that the dealer and support network behind the brand is thinner than Deere's or Kubota's, and say the purchase only makes sense if your particular dealer is strong

Questions worth asking

Shuttle or power shuttle for loader work?
Power shuttle, according to the one owner here who has run all four transmission types. He describes borrowing a plain shuttle-shift machine before upgrading and finding his left leg completely done after six hours of loader work, because every direction change goes through the clutch. His recommendation for anyone whose main job is a bucket is power shuttle or hydrostatic, and he bought power shuttle himself.
What is the real risk with the brand at this size?
The dealer, on the evidence here. One owner says plainly that the support network is not at the level of the big two and that he only bought because his own dealer is solid. The other is stuck waiting on a part his dealer cannot identify. Whatever the tractor is worth, the thing to investigate before buying is how quickly your dealer can name and source a part.

Summarised from public owner discussion, not from testing. Nothing here was measured by this site, and a report that recurs is not the same as a defect rate.

The biggest tractor Mahindra sells below the 7000s: 71 turbocharged, intercooled, common-rail horsepower, 61 at the PTO, and 5,952 lb of rear lift. It ships with the 15F/15R electronic power shuttle as standard rather than as an option, which is why the open station starts near $48,204.

Turbocharging is what separates this from the 5145 it shares a frame with: same 166 cu in four-cylinder, same 12F/12R synchro shuttle, but 55 hp and 47 at the PTO instead of 45 and 38. Dealer books put it near $37,333 - the $32,462 the 5100 series advertises is the 5145's.

Cheapest twelve-speed synchro shuttle in this catalog: $32,462 buys 45 naturally aspirated horsepower, 12F/12R with a forward-reverse shuttle, 3,748 lb of rear lift and a 3,100 lb loader. Turbocharging arrives only on the 55 hp 5155, and the 5100 series has no cab at all.
