A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
TYM 4820
What they like
- 11.4 gpm of implement flow, 48 percent more than any Series 3 tractor, which is what a grapple or a snowblower chute actually needs
- 3,306 lb of hitch lift with a 16 x 16 synchromesh shuttle standard and a 4-range hydrostat offered
- The BL200 loader lifts 2,701 lb at the pivot point, 500 lb more than the BL150 on the smaller frame
- 11.8 gal of fuel, well up on the 7.1 gal the Series 3 tractors carry
- Up to four optional remote valves
- 540 and 750 rpm rear PTO speeds
- Naturally aspirated - no turbo, no particulate filter, no regeneration
What they complain about
- TYM publishes no price - every model page ends at Request a Quote, and no two independent dealers quote a bare tractor, so the figure here would have to be invented
- 38.4 PTO hp from 48 gross is an 80 percent driveline figure, respectable but not what the bigger frame promises
- All remote valves are optional; none is standard
- Category I hitch despite 3,306 lb of lift, which limits what will pin up
- Hitch lift falls to 2,425 lb measured 24 in. behind the link ends
- 3,831 lb and a 71.1 in. wheelbase make it too big for the sort of yard a sub-compact handles
TYM T4058P
What they like
- A true power shuttle with a D-clutch, so direction changes under load need no clutch pedal at all - the only TYM compact that does this
- Four loader and four rear remote valves as standard equipment, where most of the range offers one optional valve
- Category II hitch rated 4,409 lb at the link ends, and still 3,748 lb measured 24 in. behind them - only a 15 percent fall-off
- 48 PTO hp from 58 gross, an 83 percent driveline figure on a turbocharged 2.3-litre four
- MYTYM telematics is standard, which is unusual below 60 hp
- The L4058P loader lifts 3,437 lb at the pivot point, the most of any TYM compact
- 24 mph road speed and a 15.3 gal tank
What they complain about
- TYM publishes no price - every model page ends at Request a Quote, and no two independent dealers quote a bare tractor, so the figure here would have to be invented
- Turbocharged, so unlike the rest of the naturally aspirated TYM line there is a turbo and its emissions plumbing to maintain
- 11.4 gpm of implement flow from a single gear pump - the same figure as the 48 hp 4820, on a tractor with far more hitch to feed
- 4,506 lb is heavier than some 70 hp utility tractors, so it is not a garden machine
- 78.7 in. of wheelbase makes it the longest TYM compact and the least happy in a tight yard
- No hydrostatic build is offered at all
