Kioti's cheapest way in: $13,983 buys 21 hp, two-range hydrostatic drive and a 675 lb SL2410 loader measured at the pivot pin. The CS2220 directly above it runs the same 1,007 cc engine, so stepping up buys loader and pump, not power.

On the price: The maker's own published starting figure for the base build. A dealer adds a loader, a deck and freight on top.

Lift figures are the maker's and are quoted at whichever point the maker chose; the about page explains why two loaders with the same number do not lift the same pallet.

From owner discussion and long-term write-ups

What owners say

What they like

  • At $13,983 it undercuts every Kubota BX and John Deere 1 Series entry in this catalog and still arrives 4WD with two-range hydrostatic drive
  • Kioti's 72-month powertrain term runs with no hour cap, where most rivals in this class stop the clock at 2,000 hours
  • Under 25 hp, so Tier 4 Final compliance comes without a diesel particulate filter and there is no regeneration cycle to sit out
  • 1,485 lb bare weight is light enough to trailer behind a half-ton and gentle on established turf
  • The 24-month bumper-to-bumper term covers parts and labor with no deductible, unusual at the bottom of a price list

What they complain about

  • 675 lb of loader lift at the pivot pin is the smallest figure in the CS line; the CS2220 nearly doubles it for about $1,950 more
  • 6.5 gpm is the lowest total pump flow in the series, and the steering circuit draws from it before any implement does
  • 700 lb at the 3-point limits you to light rear implements, and Kioti does not publish where that figure was measured
  • No cab at this hp point - the CS2530 is the first CS model offered with one
  • Kioti's US owner base is a fraction of Kubota's, so an unusual fault has far less shared troubleshooting written down anywhere

Gathered from owner reports

What owners report

The CS2210 is the cheapest way into a real diesel sub-compact and owners treat it accordingly: a 4-acre owner in his third season with a 60-inch belly deck says the cut will never look like a ballpark on uneven ground but the speed and versatility win, and a 3-acre owner with a 150-yard driveway calls winter plowing the thing that justified the purchase on its own. Reliability reports are genuinely mixed rather than merely varied. One owner with three Kiotis calls this one reliable and well built; another describes his as a bit of a lemon with a long list of small faults he can mostly live with, and is shopping a replacement mainly because he needs a bigger frame and more lift. Individual faults in the file include a leaking cylinder covered under warranty with the part shipped as far as the US Virgin Islands, a machine that lost the ability to climb hills while still driving fine on the flat, a 4WD fault an owner fixed himself, and a warning light that appeared after a wash.

The practical thing owners want new buyers to understand is the loader-and-deck conflict. With the loader on, mowing gets fiddly because you are constantly raising and lowering it to get around obstacles; with the deck on, ground clearance drops enough to make other work awkward. Swapping is not hard but gets old, and the longest-running owner here eventually left the mower off for good and bought a dedicated machine for grass. The other thing worth doing is calling around: quotes for the same new tractor with a loader came back between $13,300 and $15,000 within an hour's drive of each other.

What comes up favourably

  • It is the cheapest genuine entry point and owners find real money between dealers — quotes for the same new machine with a loader ranged from $13,300 to $15,000 within an hour's drive
  • Snow work is what owners say justified it, with one clearing a 150-yard driveway calling it a game changer, and another running a 72-inch rear-facing blower that the transmission gearing allows on a tractor this size
  • It does a credible job on four acres with a 60-inch belly deck for years at a time, with owners valuing the speed and versatility over cut quality on uneven ground
  • Warranty support reaches further than the dealer network suggests — one owner who bought his and had it shipped overseas had a leaking cylinder's parts sent out and fitted them locally

What comes up as a complaint

  • The loader and the belly deck fight each other: with the loader on, mowing around obstacles means constantly adjusting it, and with the deck on, ground clearance drops enough to hamper other work — one owner eventually left the deck off permanently
  • 675 lb at the pin is the ceiling owners hit first, and the ones moving on describe the horsepower as adequate while wanting a bigger frame and more lift
  • Experience is inconsistent: one owner with several Kiotis rates it reliable, while another calls his a string of small problems, with individual reports of a leaking cylinder, a 4WD fault, a warning light after washing, and one machine that could drive on flat ground but no longer climb
  • The hydrostat is loud enough that an owner at 66 hours planned a fluid change specifically to quiet it

Questions worth asking

CS2210 or spend a bit more on the CS2220?
Owners of both consistently say to spend the extra. The 2220 runs the same engine but adds meaningfully more loader capacity, a better-placed loader joystick, a skid-steer quick attach and cruise control, and owners describe the 2210 as the dated model in the range. The CS2210's own owners tend to agree from the other direction: the ones trading up cite the frame and lift capacity rather than the horsepower.
Should I buy the mid-mount deck with it?
Only if mowing is the main job. Owners find the loader and the deck genuinely awkward together — the loader gets in the way of manoeuvring around obstacles, and the deck cuts ground clearance for everything else. Taking the deck on and off is not difficult but becomes tedious if you do it often. One long-term owner removed his after a few years and bought a separate mower, and now rarely refits it.
What can it do for snow?
More than its size suggests. One owner runs a 72-inch rear-facing blower, which the transmission gearing supports on a machine this small, and prefers working in reverse so the bucket stays available for back-blading and scraping near buildings. Owners who plow with the bucket alone on a driveway of a hundred-odd yards describe it as the job that made the tractor worth buying.
Is the CS2210 reliable?
The evidence does not support a clean answer. An owner with three Kiotis rates it reliable and well built and considers it the best value in compact tractors, especially with cash promotions. Another describes an accumulation of small faults he mostly works around. The specific problems reported are individual rather than shared — a leaking cylinder, a 4WD fault, a dash light after a wash, one machine that stopped being able to climb hills — which points more toward buying from a dealer you trust than toward a known weakness.

Summarised from public owner discussion, not from testing. Nothing here was measured by this site, and a report that recurs is not the same as a defect rate.

Same 1,007 cc engine and same 21 hp as the CS2210, but the SL2420 loader lifts 1,062 lb at the pin instead of 675 and the pump goes to 7.0 gpm. That makes it the cheapest CS with a front end worth putting real dirt in.
