A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
New Holland Workmaster 35
What they like
- Consistently one of the cheapest name-brand 35 HP compacts - typically undercuts a comparable Kubota L2501 or Deere 3025E package by thousands
- Backed by New Holland's dealer network and CNH parts system, so support is stronger than buying the equivalent LS-badged tractor
- 26.6 PTO HP through the HST comfortably runs a 5-foot bush hog or tiller, more grunt than the 25 HP economy class it's priced against
- 1,808 lb rear lift handles the common box blade, rotary cutter, and rear blade lineup without drama
- 13 GPM total hydraulic flow is generous for an economy compact, so loader cycles don't feel sluggish
- Choice of true 12x12 synchronized shuttle for gear fans or a smooth 3-range HST for loader-heavy work
What they complain about
- It's an LS tractor in blue paint - that's fine mechanically, but some CNH dealers know the Workmaster compacts less well than their bigger tractors
- Loader lift of roughly 1,034 lbs at the pin is modest - a Kioti CK2620 or LS MT225S out-lifts it at similar or lower cost
- The 7.4-gallon fuel tank is small for a 35 HP machine and needs midday refills on long mowing days
- No cruise control even on the HST, a comfort miss competitors include
- Resale is decent but blue compacts don't hold value like orange and green ones do
- No factory cab option in this series, so winter users must look elsewhere or add aftermarket
- The hydrostatic drive is audibly louder at transport speed than Kubota's equivalent
New Holland Workmaster 40
What they like
- Shares the 1.9-litre turbocharged common-rail LS engine with the Boomer 40 but lists about $5,874 below it
- 34 PTO hp on the shuttle is genuine 6 ft rotary-cutter power in a compact frame
- Boomer Guard-6 cover is identical to the Boomer line - 24 months full, 72 months or 1,500 hours powertrain
- 3,067 lb is nearly 200 lb heavier than a Boomer 40 ROPS, which helps rather than hurts on loader work
What they complain about
- Superseded: New Holland launched the Workmaster 40C alongside it, so this is a run-out model and residuals will reflect that
- 1,808 lb at the link ends is the same hitch the 24.4 hp Workmaster 25 carries, so the extra engine has nowhere to go
- The 140TLA2 loader lifts only 1,500 lb at the pivot pin against 1,822 lb from the Boomer 40's 250TLA
- 7.4 gal of fuel on a 3,067 lb tractor is a short tank
- No cab at any price in this range
