A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
TYM T454
What they like
- 2,945 lb of lift measured 24 in. behind the link ends, out of 3,314 lb at the ends - the flattest lift curve of any tractor in the TYM range
- 17.0 gal of fuel, nearly double what the Series 3 tractors carry
- Common-rail Yanmar 4TNV88CR four rather than a captive engine
- Two standard rear remote valves and a draft-control lever with an adjustable lowering-speed dial
- 16 x 16 synchro-shuttle and cruise control standard
- The TX55 loader lifts 2,478 lb at the pivot point with 4,938 lb of breakout at the pins
What they complain about
- TYM publishes no price - every model page ends at Request a Quote, and no two independent dealers quote a bare tractor, so the figure here would have to be invented
- 37.3 PTO hp from 46.6 gross is an 80 percent driveline figure, and the turbocharged T554 beside it makes 45.6 from the same chassis
- 9.5 gpm of implement flow is less than the 11.4 gpm the cheaper 4820 delivers
- Category I hitch on a 3,814 lb tractor, which caps what will pin up
- TYM publishes the TX55's lift capacity only inside the brochure PDF - no TX55 page exists on its site
- No hydrostatic option; the synchro shuttle is the only transmission
TYM T494
What they like
- Telescopic lower links and stabilizers are standard, which makes pinning up a mounted implement a one-person job
- 3,822 lb of hitch lift at the link ends, the highest Category I figure in the TYM range
- 3,050 lb of that remains 24 in. behind the link ends, a 20 percent fall-off rather than the usual third
- 17.0 gal of fuel and two standard rear remote valves
- Cruise control standard and 18.6 mph on the road
- The TX57 loader lifts 2,791 lb at the pivot point
What they complain about
- TYM publishes no price - every model page ends at Request a Quote, and no two independent dealers quote a bare tractor, so the figure here would have to be invented
- F8 x R8 synchro shuttle - half the ratios the Yanmar-engined T454 offers, and it shows when you want one more gear on a slope
- 7.7 gpm of implement flow on a 3,871 lb tractor, the same pump fitted to the 30 hp 3015
- 37.2 PTO hp from 48.3 gross, a 77 percent driveline figure
- Category I hitch despite the 3,822 lb rating, so the lift is ahead of the linkage class
- No hydrostatic build offered
