A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
Kubota M6060
What they like
- The V3307 gives 56 PTO hp, six more than the M5660SU, for $8,925 more
- Factory cab is offered, which the M5660SU cannot be ordered with at any price
- Full-flat deck on cab models and tilt steering standard, both absent from the SU below it
- Same 3,307 lb hitch capacity and LA1154 loader as the M7060 above it, so the step up in engine does not change what it can pick up
- 5,005 lb in 4WD ROPS form is 618 lb more than the M5660SU, which is useful ballast for loader work
- 18.5 gal in ROPS form rises to 23.8 gal when the cab is fitted
What they complain about
- 11.0 gpm to the hitch is barely above the M5660SU's 10.6, so the bigger engine does not speed the hydraulics up
- Only the M7060 offers the 12-speed box, so the M6060 is stuck with F8/R8
- One standard remote valve, with the second, third and flow control all chargeable options
- At $43,018 it costs more than a 63.4 hp MX6000 and a 60 hp L6070, both of which carry more modern cab and operator kit
Kubota MX6000
What they like
- 51.8 PTO hp is more than a 55.5 hp MX5400 makes and enough for a seven-foot cutter or a mid-size baler
- Three-range hydrostatic with pedal control suits loader cycles and headland turns better than the MX4900's partially synchronized 8-speed
- Shares the MX5400's 3,734 lb ROPS weight, so it delivers 13 more horsepower without a heavier machine to get stuck
- Category I and II three-point hitch, plus up to three rear remotes, on a chassis that still fits a 70 in wide gate
- The LA1065 loader is the same unit fitted to the cheaper MX models, so attachments and buckets carry across the series
What they complain about
- The loader and hitch figures do not change at all over an MX5400, so the step up buys engine and PTO horsepower and nothing else — and Kubota's published starting figures across the MX range are not like-for-like configurations, so compare a dealer quote for the build you actually want rather than the list gap
- No gear option at any price, so anyone who wants a clutch and a shuttle has to drop to the MX5400
- Hydrostatic drive costs power in transfer - 51.8 PTO hp from 63.4 engine hp is a bigger loss than the gear MX4900 gives up
- Fuel capacity falls from 13.5 to 11.9 gal with the cab, on the model most likely to be ordered with one
- Loader lift of 2,275 lb at the pivot pin is well under the 2,848 lb an L47 manages, despite this being a larger tractor
