A highlighted cell wins its row on the rule named above the table: more power, lift, capacity or flow, or a lower price. A lift row is left unwon whenever the two makers measured in different places, or where either of them did not say — a figure quoted at the pivot pin and one quoted 500 mm ahead of it describe the same loader and differ by roughly a third, so ranking them against each other would invent a result. Prices are typical list and move with dealer packages.
From owner discussion and long-term write-ups
What owners of each one say
New Holland Boomer 35
What they like
- The 1.9-litre LS L32L19 is turbocharged and common-rail at every hp point in the series, so the small end is not a detuned naturally aspirated engine
- Cheapest way into the Boomer line by roughly $2,500 against the Boomer 40, which shares its chassis and weight exactly
- Boomer Guard-6 runs 24 months or 750 hours bumper-to-bumper before the powertrain cover carries on to 72 months or 1,500 hours
- The synchro shuttle is the no-charge transmission, so the list price is a real shuttle tractor rather than a stripped gear box
- 8.2 GPM on a dedicated implement pump, with steering fed from its own gear pump so loader speed does not fall away at full lock
What they complain about
- 1,808 lb of 3-point lift at the ball ends is the series floor - the 45 and up lift 2,756 lb on the same family of implements
- No cab is offered at 35 hp, so winter work means the ROPS and a jacket
- Cruise control comes only with the $2,405 hydrostatic option; the shuttle tractor has none
- The 250TLA tops out at 104 in. to the pivot pin, which is short for loading a tall trailer
- Identical 2,870 lb ROPS weight to the Boomer 40 means no extra ballast advantage for the money saved
New Holland Workmaster 40
What they like
- Shares the 1.9-litre turbocharged common-rail LS engine with the Boomer 40 but lists about $5,874 below it
- 34 PTO hp on the shuttle is genuine 6 ft rotary-cutter power in a compact frame
- Boomer Guard-6 cover is identical to the Boomer line - 24 months full, 72 months or 1,500 hours powertrain
- 3,067 lb is nearly 200 lb heavier than a Boomer 40 ROPS, which helps rather than hurts on loader work
What they complain about
- Superseded: New Holland launched the Workmaster 40C alongside it, so this is a run-out model and residuals will reflect that
- 1,808 lb at the link ends is the same hitch the 24.4 hp Workmaster 25 carries, so the extra engine has nowhere to go
- The 140TLA2 loader lifts only 1,500 lb at the pivot pin against 1,822 lb from the Boomer 40's 250TLA
- 7.4 gal of fuel on a 3,067 lb tractor is a short tank
- No cab at any price in this range
